Why Can’t Uganda Receive PayPal?

When creating a PayPal account in Uganda that can be used to pay for services online, it’s easy. But creating both a sending AND receiving PayPal account is the challenge.

Uganda too is partially restricted by PayPal – it can pay but can’t receive, just as many African countries. In East Africa, it’s only Kenya which can receive and send. The rest of us – Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan – can’t receive unless we create foreign accounts.

A business PayPal account will be useless in Uganda and in fact you will land into issues if you create a business account yet you want to just send payments. Personal can do that well, no need for business.

Simple steps to create a personal PayPal in Uganda:

1. Go to paypal.com > Sign Up > Choose Personal Account
2. Enter your real Ugandan details – email, names as on National ID, phone number
3. Link your card – your bank Visa/Mastercard or MTN MoMo Virtual Mastercard
4. Verify your email and confirm your card
5. Start paying for services online

How to Create a Receiving PayPal Account in Uganda

Now, let’s talk about a receiving PayPal account – this is what you need if you want to receive money.

You need to setup a foreign PayPal account if you want to receive. The process might involve buying a virtual line of a supported country and using key details of that foreign supported country you have chosen.

If you want a receiving PayPal account in Uganda, you might use a Kenya or Dubai PayPal link to sign up. Don’t use VPN please – VPN is the fastest way to get permanently banned. You might need to buy a virtual line online or from a friend to setup account as Dubai or Kenya.

The process involves:

• Using the official Kenya or Dubai PayPal signup link
• Buying a virtual line from Kenya/UAE for SMS verification
• Setting up the account correctly to avoid limitation

This process is complex and risky. Most people prefer not to risk it because if PayPal detects you are not in that country, your account will be suspended and money frozen for 180 days.
